Hewitt-Texas Kinder Kids

Welcome to Hewitt-Texas Elementary School!

Welcome to Hewitt-Texas Elementary School.  Constructed in 1961 and doors first opened in 1962, our building is nestled on a beautiful 13-acre wooded lot found 8.6 miles northeast of Wausau East High School.  Our property includes a wetland study area, several nature trails, and an outdoor classroom.  As a single section school that’s part of the larger Wausau School District, we have the best of both worlds: that is, a small, tight-knit community where our staff members to get to know each student closely, as well as access to top-notch programming and resources through Marathon County’s largest school district and its partnerships.

Through much professional training and collaborative planning, our teaching staff provide students with rich learning opportunities rooted in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.  Here at Hewitt-Texas, problem solving is prioritized over fact fluency, and deep understanding is prioritized over memorization.  We involve students in setting their own individualized goals.  Meanwhile, we provide them with rich feedback as they learn from their mistakes and successes.  Our academic achievement and attendance data as reported on the School Report Card consistently rate us well above average compared to other Wisconsin schools.

In addition to preparing students academically, we also focus heavily on building leadership and character in all students.  All in all, we see our students have incredible success here as Hornets, and then as they go on to become Wausau East Lumberjacks and American citizens.

If you are from somewhere else and are considering a move to this area, please reach out to our front office or principal for a tour and more information.  The school that your child will attend is one of the most important factors in deciding where to live, and Hewitt-Texas is one of the best.  If your child already attends our school and you’re looking for more ways to get involved, or if you're looking for additional ways to help support your child, please reach out as well.  We have an active Parent-Teacher Organization that is usually looking for help in running events, and an array of resources to help those seeking assistance in a variety of ways, from parenting to supporting your child’s social and emotional needs, with those sharing the resources fully respecting your privacy.

Thank you for taking the time to explore our website and learn a little more about our school.  We're always happy to welcome people to our small community, and share the successes of our learners.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Channel, Principal
