Welcome to Hewitt-Texas Elementary School. Our school has been serving students for 51 years. The school was built in 1961 and opened its doors in 1962. The school was a cooperative effort of the Towns of Hewitt and Texas. Hewitt comes first in the name because the school was built in the town of Texas. We have grades PreK through grade 5 with one section at each grade level. The small number of students allows us to know students extremely well. We are able to differentiate learning and meet the needs of all.
The school resides on 13 acres of land. On this beautiful, wooded lot we have a Wetland Study Area. The creation of this unique habitat was a collaborative effort between the Parent Teacher Organization and the Kiwanis Club of the Greater Wausau Area.
Hewitt-Texas has a strong parent teacher organization. Our parents support the mission of our school financially with various fundraisers. The parents foster a sense of school community by providing a number of well-attended activities. There are game nights, a dance, a pancake breakfast with Santa, a celebration of reading called a Read-a-thon, Grandparent’s Night, and the end of the year fun day for students.
The staff of Hewitt-Texas believes in doing our best to educate children each and every day. The staff works closely to provide a nurturing environment where students can learn. The teachers strive to create lessons that are highly engaging. They analyze assessment data to tailor learning and achieve high academic standards. Our students work hard and take their jobs as learners seriously. They are excited and eager to discover everything! Hewitt-Texas is a great place to be!
